High School Football : Kane Fills In Ably for Stein; Oak Park Registers 5th Shutout

Brian Kane, filling in for injured tailback Jason Stein, rushed for a game-high 75 yards in 8 carries and scored 2 touchdowns to lead Oak Park past Bishop Diego, 34-0, in a Tri-Valley League game Saturday at San Marcos High.

Kane, a 6-0, 175-pound senior who normally plays tight end, scored on a 49-yard run and returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown from his cornerback position.

The shutout was the fifth for Oak Park (7-1 overall, 3-1 in league play) this season.

Flanker Todd Creason scored on a 30-yard reverse as Oak Park exploded for a 21-0 first-quarter lead. Jess Garner returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and quarterback Gary Silverman completed the scoring with an 11-yard run in the third period.

The Eagles held Bishop Diego (0-8, 0-3) to 125 yards in offense. Oak Park recovered 4 fumbles and recorded 5 sacks.
