Names in the News : Youth Won’t Charge Joe Kennedy
A teen-age driver said today he is dropping assault and battery charges he filed against Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II after the congressman went to his home to apologize for shoving him after a near traffic accident.
Victor H. Avila, 17, said Kennedy (D-Mass.) grabbed his sweater and pushed him against his car following the incident Tuesday. “I did not hit him but I made myself very clear,” Kennedy, 36, told WBZ-TV, claiming that Avila had been speeding when he nearly forced the congressman off the road. “The fact is that people drive too fast in these city neighborhoods.”
Avila said he was going to court to drop the charges because Kennedy came to his home Tuesday evening to apologize. Kennedy’s spokesman denied the visit was made to apologize.
