Diamond Bar : 2 Appointed to Council

Los Angeles County Supervisor Pete Schabarum this week appointed Gary G. Miller and Lavina Rowland to fill two vacant seats on the Diamond Bar Municipal Advisory Council.

Schabarum made the appointments at the request of the remaining members of the advisory council. The municipal council, which had been operating with four members since the death of Don Stokes in September, lost another member this month, when Dan Buffington announced he was moving to West Covina.

The two appointees will serve until December, 1990, unless voters approve an incorporation measure on the March ballot and replace the municipal council with a city council.

Miller was the fourth-place vote-getter in the November election, in which three seats were at stake. A developer and prospective City Council candidate, Miller also founded Concerned Citizens for Diamond Bar Traffic Control, a residents’ group concerned with the proposed extension of Grand Avenue through Diamond Bar.

Rowland was an incumbent municipal council member whose term expired last week after she chose not to seek reelection this year because of back problems. Although she said she feels capable of serving on the advisory council, Rowland said she has no plans to run for City Council.
