West Hollywood : Development Moratorium

A 45-day development moratorium will take effect immediately in the West Knoll section of the city.

“The goal of the moratorium is to protect area residents while the city considers zoning changes,” said Councilman John Heilman.

In Thursday’s Westside section, it was incorrectly reported that the West Hollywood City Council approved a moratorium on development in the West Knoll section. Instead, city officials will investigate other ways of controlling growth such as phased development or zoning changes.

The development moratorium, effective until Feb. 2, 1989, affects the V-shaped area bounded by Santa Monica Boulevard, Holloway Drive and Palm Avenue. Residential projects with five units or less and any commercial project of less than 10,000 square feet will be exempt.

West Knoll residents have complained that development projects make their streets noisy, dirty and impassable.

The City Council unanimously approved the moratorium Dec. 19.
