NAMES IN THE NEWS : Shredded Data, Hurt’s Ex-Aide Says
William Hurt’s former personal assistant testified today he ordered her to shred all of his financial records and sweep his house for bugging devices when he found out his ex-lover had filed a palimony suit.
“He said he could lose everything. He said, ‘I need you more than ever,’ ” testified Diana Schiebel, speaking in little more than a whisper.
The Oscar winner announced in May, 1988, that Sandra Jennings, his former girlfriend and mother of their son, Alexander, was suing him, Schiebel testified at the palimony trial in state Supreme Court.
“He asked me to look into a company that could sweep his house for bugs. He believed his house was bugged.
“He asked me to take all the financial records and quietly destroy them,” testified Schiebel as Hurt’s mouth dropped open.
“How did you destroy them?” asked Jennings’ attorney, Richard Golub.
“In a shredder,” Schiebel answered, as Hurt bowed his head and raked his fingers through his hair.
