The State : Police Sketch Leads to Arrest
Using a sketch produced by a police artist, detectives in San Jose arrested a 27-year-old alarm company employee on suspicion of raping and murdering a 16-year-old Japanese exchange student. Investigators also said they believe that Gregory Calvin Smith is responsible for 17 other sex-related crimes in the area during the last six months. Ai Toyoshima, who came to the United States to learn English, was followed from a bus stop in June and fatally wounded. The teen-ager was able to describe her attacker before she died.
