Two men and a pregnant woman died today when the car in which they were riding smashed into the back of a truck parked by the side of the Golden State Freeway south of Frazier Park, the California Highway Patrol said.

The victims, whose names were not released pending notification of their relatives, were driving south on the Golden State Freeway at about 55 m.p.h. shortly after midnight when their car swerved to the right and rammed into the back of an 18-wheeler parked on the shoulder, said CHP Officer Mark Ehly.

The driver, a 28-year-old Huntington Beach man, apparently fell asleep at the wheel, Ehly said.

The truck was parked by the side of the road because it ran out of fuel, he said.

The two passengers were identified only as a 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old Huntington Beach woman.
