Fire Department Investigator Bill Dumas said Thursday that he soon may be able to release a description of an arson suspect in the $2-million fire that destroyed a Thrifty Drug Store this week.

“Right now, we’re compiling information and going through all the investigation procedure,” Dumas said, including talking to employees and customers.

About 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the arsonist set fire to paper goods inside the Thrifty Drug Store at the southwest corner of Katella Avenue and Euclid Street, Dumas said. The blaze quickly spread, exploding hair-spray cans nearby. Ultimately, the entire 10,000-square-foot store was an inferno and was destroyed. A total of nine customers and employees fled to safety, and no one was injured in fighting the three-hour blaze.

Dumas has not revealed whether the arson suspect is male or female, but he said that his investigation had determined that the fire was set by an adult, not a juvenile.
