Man Sets Off Car Alarm, Is Killed in Ensuing Fight

Two men leaving a bar early Friday in Bell Gardens accidentally set off an alarm on a car and triggered a fight with the car’s owner, who allegedly shot and killed one of them, sheriff’s deputies said.

The owner of the car, Felipe Barragan, 27, and two friends were arrested a short time after the shooting about 2 a.m. outside the Los Palmos bar at 6526 Eastern Ave. The victim, a 19-year-old Huntington Park man who was not identified, and a friend apparently set off the alarm by bumping Barragan’s car, which was parked next to theirs, Deputy Larry Mead said.

The noise brought Barragan and two friends out of the bar. Barragan, Mead said, drew a handgun and shot several times. He missed one man, but the other was shot several times in the upper torso. He died at a nearby hospital.
