Germany and Gulf War

There must be some validity to the famous remark that the Germans are always either at your throat or at your feet. Reichel’s attempt to rationalize Germany’s “ostrich policy” of letting its allies shoulder the burdens and take the risks in the Persian Gulf, on the grounds that Germany no longer has the taste for war, deserves more pity than respect. Sometimes it is moral to fight a war and sometimes it is not. She and her countrymen should know by now how to make that distinction. Even if they just flipped a Deutschmark coin, they couldn’t be wrong every time.
