CASITAS SPRINGS : Couple Die in Murder-Suicide

Share

A domestic argument involving a Casitas Springs couple turned into tragedy early Friday morning when a woman was fatally shot in the head by her housemate, who then committed suicide, authorities said.

Catherine Elizabeth Lower, 33, and Robert Ernest Scott Sr., 53, were found dead in a home on Nye Road, sheriff’s deputies and the county coroner’s office reported.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, a 911 emergency call was received at 1:42 a.m. from Lower. On a tape-recording of the call, which was released to news media, Lower asked the dispatcher to send help to the house. The call then abruptly ended.

The sheriff’s dispatcher immediately called back, according to the tape, and Scott answered the phone. Scott can be heard telling the dispatcher to cancel the 911 call.

“Cancel it?” responded the dispatcher. “They’re (deputies) on their way.”

“Good enough,” Scott said.

The couple were dead when deputies arrived at 1:47 a.m, each from a single wound to the head from a .32-caliber semiautomatic pistol, coroner’s investigator Mitch Breese said.

Scott once sold clothing along California 33 near Ojai, but was unemployed at the time of his death. Lower worked in a food market, investigators said.
