COUNTYWIDE : 20 Students Awarded Merit Scholarships

Twenty high school students from Orange County are among the 2,000 winners of the prestigious 1992 National Merit Scholarship awards announced on Wednesday.

The awards recognize the nation’s top students, chosen by a committee of college admissions officers and school counselors on the basis of grades, test scores, contributions to the school and community and the student’s goals and interests.

Each winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

The county’s winning students:

Howard Chang, Loara High School in Anaheim; Chris Neumeyer, Esperanza High School in Anaheim; Jason Kuan, Western High School in Anaheim; Evelyn Kuo, Albert Chong, Jedidiah Yueh, all of Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton.

Katharine Eklof, Costa Mesa High School; Stephen Oh, Fountain Valley High School; Grace Fu, Pacifica High School in Garden Grove; Andrew Hughes and Karen Thomas, Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach.

William Kahng, Marina High School in Huntington Beach; Eric Wey, Huntington Beach High School; Nam Yu, Edison High School in Huntington Beach; Suerie Moon, University High School in Irvine; Melissa Wong, Woodbridge High School in Irvine; Thai Bui, Laguna Hills High School; Russell Woo, Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana; Stephen Wu, Foothill High School in Santa Ana; Laura Kim, Valencia High School in Placentia.
