An unidentified man who was wounded in a shooting Sunday night walked into a local restaurant asking for help, police said.

The victim, who police describe as a Latino male about 25 years old, was struck with a bullet from a pistol once in the buttocks as he stood near the intersection of Sherman Way and De Soto Avenue, said Lt. Jeff Hulet of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man walked into a restaurant and asked the owners to call the police immediately after the shooting took place about 8:25, Hulet said.

Police received conflicting reports from unwilling witnesses, some who said the two suspects left on foot in opposite directions and others who said they fled in a car, Hulet said.

“We may never know what happened on it,” Hulet said.

Patrol officers were still investigating the shooting late last night.
