Two people have announced bids for three Westlake Village City Council positions up for election in November.

City Councilman Doug Yarrow, 47, and public relations specialist Kris Carraway, 44, are the first two candidates to officially enter the election since the filing period opened three weeks ago.

Yarrow, a resident of Westlake Village since 1984 and a councilman for four years, said he will run for a second term on a platform calling for a new park with baseball fields.

“It’s a big, big missing element within the city--baseball fields, soccer fields,” he said. “I want us to have an active park in the city of Westlake Village.”

A software executive, Yarrow has a wife and two sons, one of whom plays baseball. He said he wants to bring in new business to boost sales tax revenues because “it’s clear Sacramento has become an unreliable source of funds.”

Carraway, marketing director for Westlake Medical Center and a single mother of one daughter, has lived in Westlake Village 16 years. She said she hopes to continue a tradition of consensus-style politics, and said her goal is to maintain the city’s quality of life.

“I also would like to see us increase and improve parks, and to really keep tabs on what’s going on in our schools,” said Carraway, who has worked as a school and Chamber of Commerce volunteer in Westlake Village for years.
