U.S. fans, in a salute to defender Alexi Lalas, wore beards and wigs of long red hair. Brazilians had half-green, half-yellow jerseys.

Though the wigs could be had from vendors all over the stadium grounds in Palo Alto on Monday, the shirts were more difficult to get. They were passed out by a Brazilian beer company to Brazilians, and hundreds of fans, many of them Americans, tried to coax them away.
