VENTURA : Woman, 80, Killed in Crash With Truck
An 80-year-old Ventura woman was killed in a head-on collision on California 118 near Grimes Canyon Road early Saturday morning when her car crossed over the double yellow line and struck a tractor-trailer, the California Highway Patrol said.
Minnie Jones died instantly when her car crashed into the truck, Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis said. CHP officials did not know what caused Jones’ car to swerve into oncoming traffic at about midnight.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Scott Garrett, 35, of Hemet, was not injured in the crash.
Both lanes of the freeway were closed for about three hours while crews cleaned up an oil leak from the tractor-trailer. The spill spread about 50 feet and was six feet wide, CHP officials said.
