Lukas Leads Buyers at Keeneland
Wayne Lukas, trainer of Preakness and Belmont winner Tabasco Cat, was the leading buyer for the first time at Keeneland’s July Selected Yearling Sale. He bought 14 horses for $4,125,000 during the two-day sale that ended Tuesday.
“We’re enjoying a good spring, obviously, and getting into the sales ring has been important to our program,” he said. “We had a couple of years we didn’t get in as actively, and this is certainly going to help.”
Lukas’ top purchase was $775,000 for a Pleasant Colony colt. Many of his purchases were for Californian Bob Lewis. Lukas trains 20 of Lewis’ horses. The top price at the sale was $1.05 million for a Mr. Prospector filly out of Winning Colors.
