SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Updated Downtown Parking Study OKd

Share

The City Council has approved spending $20,000 to bring a 1990 downtown parking study up to date.

Finding a place in downtown to put one’s car can be a problem, but council members made it known last week that they don’t want any new high-rise parking structures ruining the city’s historic character.

“Part of the charm of what we have here is that it is a mess,” Councilman Gary L. Hausdorfer said.

The new study, by KHR Associates, will offer ways to accommodate more vehicles in the cramped downtown, which could be changing in the next few years. Private developers plan to renovate the El Peon complex, and city officials are talking about a possible new downtown project, Historic Town Center, which is moving toward approval.

The revised study should be finished in January.
