PARIS : Paris Is Free! The 50th

Share

The summer has been filled with hundreds of commemorations, from Normandy to the Cote d’Azur, marking the 50th anniversary of the Allied advance that broke the Nazi occupation of France.

Now comes the final major fete, on Thursday, celebrating the liberation--by French troops--of Paris.

A huge, nighttime parade is planned through the Left Bank, across the Seine and stopping in front of City Hall. At midnight, revelers will take over the famed Place de la Concorde. The next day, the Arc de Triomphe will be the site of a show by 10,000 performers marking the triumphant return of Gen. Charles de Gaulle.
