It was definitely a highlight film night for Orange as the Panthers rolled past Katella, 47-2, in a nonleague football game Thursday at Glover Stadium.

Seven Panthers scored touchdowns as their offense, including the reserves, moved the ball with relative ease the entire game.

Orange’s defense was equally impressive, keeping Katella (0-3) in check.

Orange (2-1) struggled in its season-opening 28-10 loss to Newport Harbor but has improved dramatically in its last two game. The Panthers beat Saddleback, 35-0, last Friday.

“We’re developing,” Orange Coach Dick Hill said. “Our guys are learning and getting a little better and that’s what it’s all about.”

Orange, using eight ball carriers, rushed for 247 yards, and finished with 354 yards in total offense. Katella was held to 67 yards in total offense. The Knights have been outscored, 115-20, in three games.

Markus Garza, playing only one series after halftime, gained 96 yards in 13 carries. He also scored the first touchdown, a 22-yard dash around left end in which no Katella defender had a good enough angle to catch him.

Brian Maize, a reserve fullback, added 53 yards in five carries, including a one-yard touchdown run with 11 minutes 9 seconds left in the game.

His score put Orange ahead, 34-2. Maize had runs of 25 and 20 yards, the longest two from scrimmage for the Panthers.

Orange also got touchdown runs from Art Bell (14 yards), Carlos Heard (two yards), Sam Cureton (three yards), and Shawn Dixon (one yard).
