GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

L.A. Baptist d. La Canada, 15-8, 15-3, 15-5--Darcie Frazier had 15 kills and Tunde Hrotko had 25 assists to lead the host Knights (5-0) against previously unbeaten La Canada.

Nordhoff d. La Reina, 15-6, 15-12, 15-9--Brandi Keeter had 15 kills and Jamie Sawyer served 17 points for the host Rangers (2-1) in a nonleague match between teams ranked in the Southern Section Division IV top 10. La Reina (1-2) was second and Nordhoff was seventh.

WATER POLO

Buena tournament--Matt Swartout scored in overtime to give Buena a 9-8 victory over Righetti in the quarterfinals at Ventura High. The Bulldogs (4-5) had beaten Atascadero, 10-6, in a first-round game earlier in the day.

In other games involving area teams, Westlake lost, 10-7, to Righetti then to Atascadero, 12-4, in a consolation-bracket game. All-American David Block scored seven goals in the two games for the Warriors.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

St. Francis 15, Alemany 49--Junior Kevin Koeper led St. Francis to a sweep of the first six places in a Mission League meet at Crescenta Valley Park.

Koeper, the runner-up in last year’s Southern Section Division III championships, timed 17 minutes 27 seconds over the three-mile course.

Junior Andy Van Orden (17:28) and seniors Jason Rosales (17:29), Chris Mavros (17:30) and Danny Phillips (17:31) rounded out the top five finishers for the Golden Knights (5-0, 2-0).

Crescenta Valley 22, Newbury Park 47, South Pasadena, 75 1/2, Burroughs, 97 1/2--Senior Phil Gonzalez of Crescenta Valley timed 16:08 over the three-mile course at Crescenta Valley Park as the Falcons placed five runners among the top eight finishers in the nonleague meet.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Agoura 15, Newbury Park 3--Agoura’s No. 2 doubles team of Ann Gustafson and Jennifer Donahue remained unbeaten, helping the visiting Chargers (5-0, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match.

Gustafson and Donahue are 12-0.

Agoura’s No. 1 doubles team of Sabrina Lundquist and Galit Hadari also swept their matches, improving to 15-1.
