Hansen Beats Fog and Foes
Ventura Raceway’s proximity to the ocean provides a pleasant environment for race fans.
Saturday night, that proximity proved more than a minor distraction to the crowd of 1,975 as thick fog rolled in midway through the 20-lap Three-Quarter Midget main event, forcing a stoppage before the start of the 40-lap Midget feature race.
Promoter Jim Naylor said that he has never had to cancel a race because of fog and held out hope that the fog would lift before the track’s 11 p.m. curfew, although it had not dissipated by press time.
Scott Hansen of Simi Valley took the 20-lap feature, after breaking his own track record in qualifying with a one-lap time of 12.919 seconds, eclipsing the 13.048 clocking set April 8.
