Ayers Questionable After Ankle Injury

Share

Derek Ayers, the only UCLA receiver who has caught a pass in all seven games, turned an ankle in practice and his availability for the Bruins’ game Saturday against Stanford is questionable.

Ayers, who has 13 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown, was running a pass route and slipped, turning his left ankle. He had sprained the same ankle in training camp.

Bruins sidelined for the Stanford game include free safety Shaun Williams and defensive end Darren Cline.

Glenn Thompkins will play in place of Williams, and Weldon Forde has been moved from nose guard to defensive end, leaving Jeff Ruckman with more playing time at nose guard.

Ruckman has started four of the seven games, Forde the three others.

Damon Smith, a defensive end, has been shuttled back and forth between that position and nose guard, with Pete Holland also getting time at defensive end.
