Nebraska linebacker Terrell Farley was suspended from the team after being arrested for the second time this year on suspicion of drunken driving.

Police said Farley’s speeding car hit two parked cars during a pursuit late Wednesday and that he tried to run away from officers.

Coach Tom Osborne said the incident virtually assured the end of the 21-year-old senior’s career at Nebraska.

Ramon Flanigan passed for two touchdowns and Daniel Hernandez kicked four field goals at Dallas as Southern Methodist rallied for a wild 27-24 Western Athletic Conference victory over Texas Christian.

SMU finished the season 5-6 and 4-4 in the WAC, while TCU dropped to 4-7 and 3-5.

The Mustangs had three last-minute losses this year to Utah, Navy and Missouri.

“We held in there this time to win,” said SMU coach Tom Rossley. “It was a great way to finish the season.”

Buddy Teevens, who upgraded his players’ graduation rate but could not upgrade Tulane’s football record, was fired as coach.

The announcement came about six hours after he left a meeting with the school’s board of administrators. Teevens was on the practice field and was not present for the announcement.

Teevens had one year left on his contract. The final game of the season is Saturday against No. 18 LSU.

Teevens’ record at Tulane is 11-44. His best year was 4-8 in 1993. His first year he went 2-9; Tulane was 1-10 in 1994 and 2-9 last year.

Since joining the Big East Conference in 1991, the Owls have won only one of 38 league games. Dickerson’s record in the Big East is 1-24.
