Agent Gives Up Simpson Heisman Nameplate
A sports agent surrendered the nameplate from O. J. Simpson’s Heisman trophy to sheriff’s personnel at the Santa Monica courthouse Thursday, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Simpson was ordered to turn over the trophy he won in 1968 to help satisfy the $33-million civil judgment won by the families of his slain ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman.
Sports agent Mike Gilbert was instructed by Kings County Superior Court Judge Peter Schultz to surrender the nameplate, which he did at 1 p.m., Deputy Bill Martin said.
The 3- by 8-inch bronze-colored nameplate has been secured and put with other items from the Simpson estate until a court-ordered auction takes place, Martin said.
It will not be put on public display, he said.
