Costa Mesa’s Defense Sparkles in 32-0 Victory Over Saddleback
COSTA MESA — Costa Mesa’s defense had four interceptions, including three by Nam Kim, as the Mustangs defeated Saddleback 32-0, in a nonleague game at Orange Coast College Friday night.
Steve Herzog had the first interception with four minutes and 42 seconds left in the first quarter, returning it 32 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 Costa Mesa lead.
Jerry Cleveland caught the first of two touchdown passes on a five-yard reception from Ronnie Lievanos with 31 seconds left in the first quarter. Dan Baume connected with Cleveland on a 20-yard pass with 7:52 left in the half.
Costa Mesa (1-0) added two more touchdowns in the first half. Lievanos completed five of seven passes for 57 yards. Vince Hamade was the leading rusher for the Mustangs with 78 yards in 14 carries.
