Woman Who Kidnapped Infant Gets 5-Year Sentence
A woman who posed as a volunteer in a Bellflower medical center and stole a newborn baby in January was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison.
Maria Guadalupe Ramos, 22, pleaded guilty to one felony count of kidnapping a child.
Prosecutors said Ramos befriended the parents and then invited them to Kaiser Hospital-Bellflower with promises of coupons for milk and a crib before she kidnapped week-old Cindy Arciga.
Ramos was arrested after television stations broadcast a videotape of the abduction. She told investigators that she was afraid to tell her boyfriend she had a miscarriage and was pretending to be pregnant.
