High School Reunion Picnic Set at Lake Park

Share

More than 1,000 alumni from Huntington Beach High School are expected to descend on Lake Park on Sunday, laden with food, family and memories.

It’s the fifth annual family picnic sponsored by the high school’s Alumni Assn. and organizers are still surprised at what a popular reunion it has become.

“There were about five of us and we started out as a social thing, just a bunch of us who were local getting together,” said organizer Sharon Drubin. “We had a lunch at Maxwell’s and 30 people showed up. We were shocked. We decided to get more organized.”

Since then, alumni from as far away as the East Coast and Canada have come to reminisce with old friends. Last year’s gathering even included members from the Class of 1925.

“I think most of us have certain memories that were fun memories and usually it’s from high school,” said Drubin, who is with the Class of ’58. “When you’re older, you don’t have a lot to look forward to, but you have a lot behind you. These are the pleasant memories.”

Graduates from all years and classes are invited to the picnic. Alumni can join the association on the spot for $7 in annual dues. Everyone is asked to bring a food dish to serve 10 to 12. Free sodas will be provided.

The picnic runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the park on Main Street, near 11th Street.
