A 23-year-old Santa Paula man was arrested Friday after leading officers on a high-speed chase through east Ventura, police said.

Manuel Alamillo was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of evading arrest, driving without a license and an unrelated criminal warrant, officers said. His bail had not yet been set.

About 4:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Manny Fernandez pulled Alamillo over for not wearing a seat belt while driving on westbound California 126 near Wells Road.

Alamillo sped off during the traffic stop, officers said. He struck a guardrail near Kimball Road and then led officers on a chase through a nearby residential neighborhood, police said.

Minutes later, Alamillo headed west on Foothill Road, where he struck a car near Marymount Court that was being driven by 18-year-old Jennifer Downs, police said. Downs suffered minor injuries, witnesses said.

Alamillo stopped his Ford Ranger pickup truck after the collision and surrendered, officers said. He told police he fled because he has an outstanding $5,000 warrant, police said. The nature of the warrant was not available.

A helicopter and county sheriff’s deputies helped in the chase and arrest, witnesses said.
