Workshop to Focus on Freeway Corridor
A county plan to reduce building density and ease traffic along the Ventura Freeway corridor will be discussed todayat a public workshop sponsored by the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission.
The Ventura Freeway Corridor Areawide Plan will affect the allowable uses of many properties within the unincorporated area, according to the Department of Regional Planning. The plan has sparked concern among some landowners who fear it would limit their mostly small-scale residential developments.
Nearly five years in the making, the proposal attempts to coordinate the plans of local jurisdictions by requiring new developments to be compatible with neighbors.
In the past, Calabasas Planning Commissioner Dave Brown said, “The county was doing our planning for us and it was basically giving developers whatever they wanted.”
The plan covers a 60-square-mile area bordered by Ventura County to the north and west, the city of Los Angeles to the east and northeast, and a coastal area to the south.
The public workshop is intended to provide feedback before the Planning Commission and later the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors vote on the plan.
The workshop is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Round Meadow Elementary School, 5151 Round Meadow Road in Calabasas.
