Woman, Gunman Die at Day-Care Center
A gunman entered a day-care center as it was closing Thursday night and shot two women, one fatally, before being killed by gunfire, police said.
There were no children at the center during the 6 p.m. shooting, San Diego police spokesman Dave Cohen said.
Officers were called to the center in the Rolando area east of downtown on a report of gunfire and heard shots upon arriving. They entered the building and heard shouting and more shots.
Cohen said an officer caught a glimpse of the suspect and fired at him. The suspect then retreated farther back into the building.
SWAT officers arrived and searched the building, finding the suspect dead.
