Simi Valley 31, Saugus 20--In the first half, sophomore receiver Calvin Bell had touchdown receptions of six and 55 yards, and also returned a punt 72 yards for a score to lead Simi Valley at home.

Quarterback Tim Bird of Simi Valley (1-1) was 12 of 19 for 132 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with John Santiago on an 11-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.

John Proja rushed for 116 yards in 16 carries for the Pioneers. Sean Stoddard had 139 yards in 20 carries for Saugus (0-2).

David Parker completed 12 of 19 for 143 yards, including touchdown passes of 22 yards to John Van Duzee and eight to Ryan Kemp.
