MTBE Pollution
Gov. Gray Davis’ announcement that he will allow the oil companies to further contaminate California’s well water with MTBE for three more years is absolutely frightening (March 26). Californians would revolt if they understood the extent and permanence of MTBE pollution of our precious drinking water in the ground by this cancer-causing chemical added to our gasoline for the last three years.
Although MTBE does improve air quality slightly, a much greater improvement would result from tougher tailpipe emissions rules for cars and trucks. Davis needs to wake up!
