Ocean View Teachers Could Get 10% Raise

Share

The Ocean View School District has reached a tentative agreement with its teachers that would, if approved, raise salaries for credentialed teachers by 10%, retroactive to July 31.

If enrollment does not reach a certain level by October 2001, however, the raise would be reduced to 9%.

Teachers who are not fully credentialed would receive just a 3% raise. There also would be a 4.27% increase in health and welfare benefits for all teachers. The proposed salary increases are tied to enrollment because the number of students in the district is declining, Assistant Supt. Jeff Chancer said.

Chancer said the bargaining process went smoothly, with little tension between the district and the Ocean View Educators Assn. “The negotiations couldn’t have been better,” he said.

The board is scheduled to vote on the contract during its meeting tonight.
