Arrestee Flees Patrol Car, Is Recaptured
An arrestee briefly escaped from Cypress police Sunday morning when he kicked out the window of a moving patrol car en route to Orange County Jail, officials said.
Santos Gomez Jr., 33, of Orange was arrested at 7:30 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest. There was also a warrant for civil contempt of court.
While police were eastbound on the Garden Grove Freeway, Gomez kicked out the rear side window, slipped from his seat belt and tried to climb out of the moving car, police said.
Officers said they pulled over at Beach Boulevard, where Gomez climbed out of the car and ran across the freeway while handcuffed. He fled down an embankment, and officers caught him there without further incident.
