IRVINE
Leaders of the teachers union and Irvine Unified School District officials said they’re likely to resolve their clashes over proposed changes to the teachers’ contract within the next few days.
“It appears that we will be able to move forward shortly,” said Gail Rothman, president of the Irvine Teachers Assn., to cheers from about 200 teachers at last week’s school board meeting.
The weeks of protest actions, which attracted as many as 500 teachers, have been suspended by the union.
The announcement about the contract came shortly before trustees voted to send initial layoff notices to 182 teachers by March 15.
