Coin Flip Goes in Favor of Troy
Second-seeded Troy won a coin flip on Sunday to host its Southern Section girls’ basketball Division I-A semifinal against Edison.
The game will be played Tuesday at an alternate site, which will be announced today. It will be a rematch of Troy’s 54-52 victory over Edison at the Orange County Championship in December.
In the other Division I-A semifinal, San Clemente will play top-seeded Riverside North at Riverside Poly High.
In Division I-AA, third-seeded El Toro plays host to second-seeded Lynwood at Laguna Hills, while Long Beach Wilson will be the home team against top-seeded Chino Hills Ayala.
The top-seeded teams in Division II-AA, Brea Olinda and Foothill, will play their semifinals Wednesday instead of Tuesday to avoid conflicts with boys’ games. Those sites are to be determined.
Brea will play No. 4 Norco
and Foothill plays third-seeded Redondo Beach Redondo, whose boys’ team plays Tuesday.
A conflict on Wednesday could exist with Foothill’s girls’ water polo team, which plays a section final at Belmont Plaza; the Southern Section is reluctant to make fans choose which sport to support at this stage of the playoffs.
