Grant to Fund Campaign for Motor Oil Disposal
The county will use a $690,000 state grant to teach Spanish-speaking residents and others how to properly dispose of used motor oil and filters.
Although there are close to 80 oil recycling locations in the county, nearly 5,000 gallons were improperly disposed of last year, said Toni Moran of the county Solid Waste Management Department.
A large portion of the grant money will be used to develop a bilingual education program to promote oil exchange, said Peter Kaiser of the department’s Pollution Prevention Division.
