On Surface, Go With Belleski

Share

After losing her first three starts on dirt, Belleski is perfect since moving to the turf.

A 4-year-old daughter of Polish Numbers trained by John Sadler for owners Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Moss, Belleski has won three times on the lawn.

After breaking her maiden at nearly 6-1 in a mile race on April 13, 2002, the $150,000 yearling purchase was away for more than nine months. She returned to win two sprints down the hill at Santa Anita, winning at 14-1 on Jan. 19, then clicking at 4-5 on Feb. 23.

Now Belleski will try to stay unbeaten in her first start at Hollywood Park. She is one of seven scheduled to run in today’s seventh, a $55,000 optional claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass.

Race of the day: Pertuisane, who looked good winning her California debut for co-owner and trainer Bobby Frankel on May 2, will be favored to win again in today’s second, a $58,000 allowance at one mile on the turf. Pertuisane’s victory looks even better since Chiming, her stablemate and the runner-up that day, easily won the Yerba Buena over the weekend at Bay Meadows.

One for the road: Blueasarobinseggs ran better than appearances in her May 16 debut at Churchill Downs and drops to the $15,000 level in today’s sixth. Mark Guidry rides the daughter of Dumaani back for trainer Jinks Fires and she has little to beat in the 6 1/2-furlong race that begins the day’s late pick four.

Exotically speaking: A pick all singling Aussie Girl in the first, Pertuisane in the second, using Frenchie and Chez La Femme in the third, Kind Lena and Lady Speaker in the fourth, Shy Patada and Anima Mundi in the fifth, singling Susie Joe’s in the sixth and Belleski in the seventh and using Stalking Tiger, Areyoutalkintome and Anthony Eats in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/69. Money: Previous day/meet total: $27.40/$377.80. Total money bet: $450.
