Cargill in Deal to Buy Stock in Fresno Firms

Cargill Inc., the second-largest U.S. beef packer, said it had a preliminary agreement to acquire the stock of several interrelated meat businesses in Fresno as it expands operations on the West Coast.
The businesses -- Beef Packers Inc., Fresno Meat Co., RPM Beef Inc., King-O-Meat Inc. and Ore-Cal Transportation Inc. -- employ 1,155 workers, Wayzata, Minn.-based Cargill said.
