Update -- The Galaxy is coming off its two most impressive victories of the season, a 4-1 drubbing of the Colorado Rapids in MLS play last Saturday and a 5-3 rout of the Minnesota Thunder in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals on Wednesday. Spirits are high and the team has been bolstered by the acquisition of defensive midfielder Marcelo Saragosa, who arrived from Brazil on Wednesday. He will provide cover for Paulo Nagamura and Peter Vagenas. The Wizards defeated the Galaxy, 2-0, in the 2004 Western Conference final and have not lost to L.A. since June 2003. The Wizards, tied for third in the Eastern Conference, signed Finland national team striker Antti Sumiala during the week. The Galaxy, second in the Western Conference, elevated Herculez Gomez to the full roster and on Friday signed Nigerian youth international Michael Nsien to a developmental contract, taking Gomez’s place on the reserve team.
