Inmates riot over comrade’s transfer
From Times Wire Reports
More than 150 prisoners escaped from a state penitentiary in Cancun after hundreds of inmates overpowered guards with knives and bats in an effort to stop the transfer of a gang leader to another prison.
Police had recaptured most of the men.
Guards fatally shot three inmates during the riot, said a Red Cross official who received the bodies. Several prisoners and guards were wounded.
