at No. 5 West Virginia 41, Syracuse 17: Quarterback Pat White ran for a career-high 247 yards and four touchdowns -- three in the second half to break open a close game -- and the Mountaineers (6-0, 1-0) defeated the Orange (3-4, 0-2) at Morgantown, for their 13th consecutive victory. West Virginia’s streak tied a school record set in 1952-53. The Mountaineers’ fifth straight win over Syracuse is their longest in the 54-game series dating to 1945.

at No. 7 Louisville 23, Cincinnati 17: Brian Brohm threw for 324 yards and a touchdown in his first game in nearly a month, but the Cardinals (6-0, 1-0) had to hang on to defeat the Bearcats (3-4, 0-2) at Louisville, Ky. Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza’s pass to the end zone in the last seconds was broken up by Gavin Smart to preserve Louisville’s 15th straight home win. Brohm needed surgery after injuring his right throwing hand against Miami on Sept. 16.

No. 24 Rutgers 34, at Navy 0: Mike Teel threw a career-high three touchdown passes at Annapolis, Md., and the Scarlet Knights defeated the Midshipmen (5-2) to improve to 6-0 for the first time in 30 years. Rutgers limited the nation’s top-ranked rushing offense to 113 yards in 50 carries. Navy had been averaging 350.5 yards on the ground and had not been shut out since a 38-0 defeat against Connecticut in 2002. Navy quarterback Brian Hampton dislocated his left knee in the first quarter and could be lost for the season.

at Connecticut 21, Army 7: Terry Caulley ran 98 yards for a touchdown, and Larry Taylor returned a punt 72 yards for another to lead the Huskies (3-3) over the Black Knights (3-4) at East Hartford.
