A 35-year-old man accused of killing a 2-year-old girl in a case that shook Los Angeles County’s foster care system was convicted Thursday of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse resulting in death, authorities said.

Armando Abundis Sr., the child’s great-uncle, faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced April 28 for killing Sarah Chavez. His wife, Frances Abundis, had previously pleaded no contest to being an accessory and is scheduled to be sentenced March 13.

Sarah died in October 2005 from multiple traumatic injuries.
