BMW to offer electric Mini cars

BMW plans to offer battery-powered Mini cars in the U.S. by mid-2009 to meet demand for fuel-efficient vehicles.
Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer said in a July 9 statement that BMW would make a limited number of all-electric Minis for testing.
The Munich, Germany, firm hasn’t decided how many will be available in the U.S. and whether they will be leased or sold, an executive said.
