Rivers takes riffs, rants to Britain

Comedian Joan Rivers is taking her play, “Joan Rivers: A Work in Progress by a Life in Progress,” across the Atlantic.

After a stop at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Aug. 7-25, “Work in Progress” is scheduled to play Aug. 29-Sept. 18 and Dec. 2-Jan. 29, 2009, at London’s Leicester Square Theatre. The new production, to be directed by Sean Foley, will include some changes to Rivers’ slice-and-dice, riff-and-rant content seen earlier this year at the Geffen Playhouse.

“That’s why it’s called a ‘work in progress,’ ” said Judy Katz, Rivers’ publicist.

The play is set in a dressing room where Rivers prepares for what may be her last gig on the Oscar night red carpet. Emily Kosloski, who appeared in the Geffen production, will be joined by cast members Carrie Paff and Mark Phillips.
