Deliver us from junk mail

Re “For failure to deliver, he’s his customers’ hero,” Nov. 22

Thank you for printing the article about the postman who quit delivering the fliers and ads that we call “junk mail.” This mail has become a problem and deserves attention. Such a waste -- it goes directly from my mailbox to the recycling bin.

I asked my carrier how to make it stop and was offered a process that was far too involved and would end only a small part of the unwanted deliveries.

I believe that as a society, we could easily adapt to once- or twice-a-week delivery of regular mail -- which might reduce Postal Service expenses. Persistently stuffing mailboxes with wads of paper that we don’t need or want is a waste of resources, both physical and human, that could be more effectively deployed.
