A man shot to death by a Santa Ana police officer “refused commands to stop aggressing on the officer” moments before the shooting, authorities said Wednesday.

The Tuesday night incident marked the second fatal shooting by Santa Ana police in less than a week.

Police were called to an alley near the 2700 block of North Grand Avenue about 7 p.m. because a man was “acting suspiciously” and pacing back and forth, Police Cmdr. Jeff Owens said.

When the officer arrived, the man “became verbally hostile and physically aggressive,” Owens said.

The officer shot the man after he refused to follow an order to stop, Owens said.

The man, whose name was not released, died at a hospital.

The incident followed a Friday night shooting in which an allegedly armed man was killed by Santa Ana detectives.
