Amgen Inc. said its cancer drug Vectibix was effective for treatment of advanced colon cancer, a result that could help signal a comeback for the biotechnology company’s first tumor-fighting drug.

A late-stage study found that Vectibix, introduced in 2006 as a cancer treatment, “significantly prolonged” the time before symptoms worsened in advanced colon cancer patients with certain gene mutations, the Thousand Oaks company said.
