Philippine troops stormed a remote southwestern islet to remove about 30 Muslim gunmen who took over a village near beach resorts popular with foreign tourists, a navy spokesman said.

Two of the gunmen were killed and two were captured when marines landed in Balabac township in the southernmost part of Palawan island, navy spokesman Col. Edgardo Arevalo said.

The marines were going house to house searching for the rest of the gunmen, who appeared to have split up, he said.
